Thanks to our generous donors, our 2012 Kickstarter campaign has been successful! Stay tuned for more fun ways to support Balagan...
Last night we launched our Kickstarter campaign! The clock is ticking, and we have 29 days to raise $3000 in order to sponsor some of our 2012 programming.
If you are planning to attend any of our screenings, your donation will basically pay for itself. And we are offering tickets and amazing donations from our supporters in exchange for your generosity! Any amount will help, as we HAVE to reach the minimum goal in order to get anything at all. If we don't raise $3000 by January 12th, no payments will go through!
Please check out the teaser and the prizes on the Support page!
We are happy to announce the launch of a new section of the site, Journal, where we will post original content intended to contextualize and supplement the biweekly screenings. This week, we have an interview with Rob Todd, where he talks about the film we presented on November 1st, Master Plan, as well as his views on politics, community, gardening, the art career, and much more.
We've been hard at work, planning our next few screenings, a Kickstarter campaign, grant writing and much much more, as evident in the photo...

And the program of the first screening is ready and posted! On October 18th, we'll be showing films and videos from fourteen local makers:
Playing for Keeeps (2009) by Dylan Hayes
Chores (2011) by Louisa Conrad
Twin Rock (2011) by Tony Flackett
Envelope Film (2011) by Nicky Tavares
Making Space (2010) by Matt McWilliams
Noisolpmi (2008) by Tara and Gordon Nelson
Star Film (1971) by Saul Levine
Eye for an Eye (2002) by Ruth Lingford
This Must Be the Place (2011) by Luis Arnias
Pink (2010) by Soon-mi Yoo
Passage upon the Plume (2011) by Fern Silva
Night Side (2008) by Rebecca Meyers
Covert Action (1984) by Abigail Child
Undergrowth (2011) by Rob Todd
For more info about the artists and their works, see here. Hope you will come by to see the films, as well as to meet with us and the filmmakers, get refreshments before the show, listen to music, and hang out at a local bar after!
The new website is almost ready to officially launch -- please send your feedback!
Also, two fall screenings have been confirmed: Rob Todd on November 1st and Jackie Goss on November 15th. We are in the midst of planning the first show of the season - a collection of locally-made works that share the wild, celebratory balagan spirit.
In the meantime, here is a set design by the wonderful Alexandre Benois that may serve as a point of inspiration.
